  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • Black gel icing color
  • Red gel icing color
  • 2 1/4 cups unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 57 tbsp water or cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt (for frosting)
  • 4 oz red Wilton candy melts (for decoration)
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream (for decoration)
  • Sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat together butter, oil, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time; mix well.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients along with buttermilk until just combined.
  4. Divide batter in half; melt chocolate and stir into one half. Alternate spooning batters into pans and gently swirl with a knife.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean; cool before frosting.
  6. Prepare frosting by beating butter and gradually adding powdered sugar and cocoa powder until smooth.
  7. Decorate with frosting, melted candy melts for the "blood," and sprinkles.
