  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (130g) chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter (for icing)
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup (for icing)
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar (for icing)
  • Pinch salt, to taste (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Cream butter and brown sugar in a mixer until smooth. Add egg, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract; mix well.
  3. Gradually combine dry ingredients into the wet mixture, then fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Cover and chill dough for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough into balls and place on prepared sheets.
  7. Bake for 12-13 minutes until lightly browned around edges but soft in center.
  8. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  9. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter with maple syrup while whisking occasionally. Once melted, remove from heat; whisk in sifted confectioners’ sugar until smooth. Taste test; add salt if desired. Drizzle icing over cooled cookies and allow to set for about an hour.
