  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar for sprinkling on top
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 tsp milk for top
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in molasses and milk until just combined.
  5. Shape dough into a circle about 3/4" thick on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle sugar.
  7. Cut into wedges and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For icing, mix powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla; drizzle over warm scones.
