  • 34 lb beef brisket
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional for heat)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and rub with olive oil and spices (salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder).
  2. Sear the seasoned brisket in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned on all sides.
  3. Place the seared brisket in a slow cooker and mix together the beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and brown sugar in a bowl; pour over the meat.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until tender.
  5. In a skillet, sauté sliced onions and minced garlic in butter until caramelized.
  6. Remove the brisket from the slow cooker, shred it with forks, and mix in caramelized onions along with brown sugar and drippings before serving.
